Wreck-It Ralph Video Game Cameos and Villains

Wreck-It Ralph Video Game Cameos List

Looking for a list of all the cameos and villains of video game characters in Wreck-It Ralph? Well look no further.

Wreck-It Ralph is the upcoming movie from Disney starring a video game bad guy who is tired of being the villain and wants to be a hero.

The game features multiple cameos of characters from other video games. Disney worked with many of the publishers to get their characters cameos into the movie, with plenty of notes being sent back and forth about adjustments that needed to be made. Details such as the height of Bowser in relation to M. Bison had to be addressed, as well as how Bowser breathes fireballs out of his mouth. All of these points were taken on board and addressed until all publishers were happy.

I know you're here for the Wreck-It Ralph video game cameos and villains list, so on to that!

Character: Sonic the Hedgehog
Video Game Series: Sonic the Hedgehog
Publisher: Sega

Scene: Sonic makes three brief cameos in Wreck-It Ralph. He is seen  twice in Grand Central Station, one of which is on electronic poster board, where all the video game characters gather after the arcade closes. The other time is when Ralph flies the escape pod into the Sugar Rush tunnel and scares some rings out of Sonic!

One of the most iconic video games characters, Sonic is very faithfully represented, as I'm sure Sega was very particular that Disney ensured he was.

Sonic

Character: Bowser
Video Game Series: Super Mario Bros.
Publisher: Nintendo

Scene: Bowser is present in a few initial scenes, the one where he gets the most on screen time is during the Bad Anon villains meeting.

Bowser is faithfully represented in the movie. As described above, apparently his mouth spitting fireballs was changed after suggestion from Nintendo that they simply come out without pursed lips.

Character: Zangief
Video Game Series: Street Fighter
Publisher: Capcom

Scene: Zangief features in the Bad Anon meeting group and actually gets a few lines spoken.

One of the more faithful productions of a video game villains in Wreck-It Ralph, Zangief has all the trademark features like his chest hair, scars and clothes.

Zangief

Character: Kano
Video Game Series: Mortal Kombat
Publisher: Midway

Scene: Kano features in a scene where all the video game bad guys are attending a Bad Anon meeting.

Probably the one character in Wreck-It Ralph that looks least like his video game counterparts. The iconic red eye is there but the robotic arm, gold chains and heavy tattooed arms are not features I'm familiar with. Perhaps Midway were more lenient with Disney's vision of Kano.

Wreck-It Ralph cameo Kano
Kano
Character: Q*bert
Video Game Series: Q*bert
Publisher: Gottlieb

Scene: Q*bert features in a few scenes with both Wreck-It Ralph and Fix-It Felix.

Q*bert spent most of his life in 8-bit so it's good to see him represented here in 3D. In a scene with Fix-It Felix, he is even seen talking his funny punctuation language in speech bubbles. Another scene with Wreck-It Ralph sees his as an out of work video game character as his cabinet has had its plug pulled in the real world arcade.

Character: Dr. Robotkin / Eggman
Video Game Series: Sonic the Hedgehog
Publisher: Sega

Scene: Also features in the Bad Anon meeting where Wreck-It Ralph declares he doesn't want to be a villain anymore.

Originally known as Eggman in Japan and Robotnik in English language countries. Faithfully represented in his rounded egg shape.

Dr. Robotkik / Eggman

Character: Zombie
Video Game Series: House Of The Dead
Publisher: Sega

Scene: Gets quite a few lines in the Bad Anon meeting scene where he tries to make Wreck-It Ralph feel better about being a bad guy.

Also known as Cyril the zombie, he's recognisable as a zombie from House Of The Dead by his dual axes which were used to attack players in the light gun games. Looks very faithful to the zombies in the first HOTD game.

Wreck-It Ralph Cameo Cyril the zombie
Zombie

Character: Neff
Video Game Series: Altered Beast
Publisher: Sega

Scene: One of the villains at the Bad Anon meeting.

This one stumped me for a while but Neff in this rhinoceros form is actually the bad guy from level 1 of Altered Beast transformed I to the final level boss of the game. He looks quite different in this 3D format from his 16 bit days, improved I'd say.
Neff

Character: Clyde
Video Game Series: Pacman
Publisher: Namco

Scene: Clyde is actually the host of the Bad Anon meeting that Wreck-It Ralph is attending, trying to help him come to terms with his feelings of being a villain.

As cameos go in Wreck-It Ralph, this is one of the funnier ones when Clyde switches between his chasing and can be eaten form when Ralph proclaims he wants to be a good guy, complete with phasing in and out of blue sounds.

Clyde

Character: Cyborg
Video Game Series: Cyborg Justice
Publisher: Sega

Scene: Another villain from the Bad Anon meeting.

Wondering who this yellow cyborg is? He's one of the more obscure choices as a video game cameo in Wreck-It Ralph. He's from a game called Cyborg Justice that is not as well known as some of the other characters mentioned above.

A 16 bit game on the Sega Mega drive / Genesis that played in a similar fashion to Final Fight but with robots. You chose all types of arms, legs, heads and torso's and then sent your cyborg out to battle others in this side scrolling beat 'em up. Best move has to be the way you can rip other appendages off your enemies and attach them to your cyborg if you wanted their weapon feature.
Cyborg

Character: M. Bison
Video Game Series: Street Fighter
Publisher: Capcom

Scene: Another bad guy at the Bad Anon meeting. At one point in the movie, M. Bison says "You're not going TURBO, are you?"which proves integral to the the story.

M. Bison is one of the more synonymous villains in the meeting that Wreck-It Ralph attends. Amusingly there is an anecdote floating around the Internet that Disney was asked to review the sizes of both M. Bison and Bowser to ensure that their heights were relational to each other and apparently there was so e back and forth between Disney, Cap com and Nintendo until everyone was happy with the height of their video game character in relation to the other.
M. Bison

Character: Beholder
Video Game Series: Eye Of The Beholder
Publisher: Sega (Sega CD) & Capcom (SNES)

Scene: The green bad guy with multiple eyes at the Bad Anon meeting.

I'm starting to get to some of the more controversial video games cameos in Wreck-It Ralph. This could be a beholder from any game really, but I've picked Eye Of The Beholder as it was a hugely popular RPG from Westwood Associates back in the early 90's. Released on multiple platforms, t appeared on both of Sega and Nintendo's consoles, as is a fitting choice here.
Beholder

Character: Dig Dug
Video Game Series: Dig Dug
Publisher: Namco

Scene: Digs into the ground at Grand Central Station as Wreck-It Ralph approaches, to get out of his way.

Considering Dig Dug is an 8 bit character, he's pretty faithfully represented her in 3D, with his red digger stick.
Dig Dug

Character: Frogger
Video Game Series: Frogger
Publisher: Sega/Gremlin

Scene: Features in the same scene in Grand Central Station, where Wreck-It Ralph is walking through and hops away from him as he approaches.

Again, very faithfully represented from his 8 bit origins.

Frogger

Character: Paperboy
Video Game Series: Paperboy
Publisher: Atari/Elite/Mindscape

Scene: Paperboy also features in Grand Central Station, where Wreck-It Ralph is walking away from the train eating a cherry. It's a very quick scene as he crashes his bike behind Ralph

Paperboy is easily recognisable in his trademark yellow hat as he sees Wreck-It Ralph and crashes his blue BMX bike.

Wreck-It Ralph cameo Paperboy
Paperboy

Character: Mishaela
Video Game Series: Shining Force
Publisher: Sega

Scene: Mishaela is part of the group of Wreck-It Ralph villains seated in a circle at the Bad Anon meeting in the movie.

This one stumped me originally, but thanks to some help in the comments, I was able to identify her.

Also known as Michaela, Mishela is a powerful wizard and a prophet from Sega's Shining Force series of RPGs. A magazine I had read said it was Sarah Kerrigan from Starcraft (Blizzard), but I think this is a far more likely choice.

Mishaela

Character: Chun-Li
Video Game Series: Street Fighter
Publisher: Capcom

Scene: When Wreck-It Ralph is handing the Pacman cherry to Q*bert, Chun-Li can be seen walking down the stairs with Zangief, to the right of the other Q*bert characters.

Although we only get a brief cameo of Chun-Li in Wreck-It Ralph, and only from the back, she is easily recognisable in her trademark outfit and tied-up hair.

Wreck-It Ralph Chun-Li
Chun-Li

Character: Ninja (?)
Video Game Series: ?
Publisher: Midway or Tecmo?

Scene: There's a ninja at the Bad Anon meeting between the devil and Bowser. It could just be a generic ninja, but lots of people seem to think it's Smoke from Mortal Kombat (Midway). Personally, I don't see the resemblance.

I think it could be Ryu Hayabusa from Ninja Gaiden (Tecmo)? What do you guys think?

Ninja?

Other characters:
Other video games that are known to show up in Wreck-It Ralph are:

Tapper (Bally Midway), where Ralph and a few of the other characters go for some beers, the bartender features in the movie. The Tapper name can also be seen in the trailer in Grand Central Station where all the video games are accessed.

There is also a hidden reference to Final Fantasy VII (Square) where "Aerith Lives" has been written in graffiti on a subway wall. Click the image to the right to see the bigger picture.

There's also a red devil at the Bad Anon meeting. Could be another generic character but his outfit really reminded me of Dungeon Keeper (EA).

Coily, Slick and Ugg (or is it Wrong-Way and Sam?) also show up in Grand Central Station (right) from Q*bert, where Wreck-It Ralph offers them a Pacman cherry he stole after the Bad Anon meeting.

As pointed out in the comments below, Super Mario also gets a mention at the Fix-It Felix party scene, but we don't actually get to see him.

Aerith Lives

    2. The Ninja at the meeting is most likely Smoke. He does in fact heavy resemble his video game form, particularly in the later Mortal Kombat games.

    3. yeah, but he almost exactly resembles tecmo's ninja gaiden character.

    4. Smoke is gray. If it’s a Mortal Kombat Ninja is Noob Saibot 🤦🏼‍♂️

    2. Jenkins was spray painted on the wall of the station. A lot of people are calling this a ""Leroy Jenkins" joke but the CGI director's name was Jenkins so I believe it could be an inside bit added in to be a double meaning for gamers and production staff.

  6. "Shen Long was here" is also a graffiti on the subway, which is a callback to the mistranslation in street fighter where ruy said "You must defeat Sheng Long to stand a chance." at that time everyone thought Sheng long was a secret character when in reality it was supposed to say dragon punch.

Anyone have any pictures of the Street Fighter characters?

  10. Sonic had 3 appearances in the movie, not including the end credits or bonus scene. He's shown on the PSA poster, which you've alluded to, but he's also in a scene in game central station, in the middle of the movie, can't remember the specific scene, but it's very short. The 3rd appearance is a quick one, where Ralph is in the escape pod, and he's bouncing off the walls in game central station. He eventually flies into the Sugar Rush tunnel, where Sonic is walking by. Sonic lets out a noise, and a few rings fall out from him. Like he got the 'rings' scared out of him.

  20. Also during the scene where Ralph is talking to the guy from Hero's duty, there are pictures on the wall featuring many of the video game characters. The most notably one is Sonic! I saw Satan (Some say its Diablo? for the Diablo series), I saw Ryu, when Ralph is looking at the soldier. Also! I'm kind of led towards the idea that Hero's duty is based off of Starcraft. 1. is the "dynamite gal" from Hero's duty lol and the bugs are a reference to the starcraft race Zerg. Also the bug thing looked like a baneling, when it was with ralph in the ride to Sugar Rush. Or oculd have been a drone, which is why, it multiplied into many bugs! Just a speculation lol I thought this movie was really great and I just wanted to be very optimistic about the video game cameo hunt :D

  27. I say the Ninja character is from Shinobi, 1987 sega.

  28. Chun-Li is first seen walking with Cammy when they bad guys get off the pac-manorail at game central station. Peach as well as the other three ghosts from pac-man were also in the same panoramic view.

Then there's Ryu and Ken in their arcade box and Ryu again at Tappers. Also, when Ralph is looking through the box, he pulls out a Mushroom from Mario and also an Exclamation Mark from Metal Gear complete with sound effect. There's also sketches on the walls of verious characters, including an alien from Space Invaders. Also, Tails and Guile.

Hero's Duty looks like it packs in a ton of references from Space Marine video games like Halo, Starcraft... Also, a reference to first person scrolling shooters like Time Crisis.

Then Sugar Rush itself is a reference to Japanese Kart racers. Finally, Ralph calls Vanellope a Guttersnipe, it's an actual term but Magic The Gathering has a monster card of the same name.

  29. Sonic has 4 cameos in the movie. 2 in Game Central, 1 at Fix-it-Felix's party (when Gene slams the door and says "It's Ralph!" the camera changes to a scene with 2 teddy grahams, Deanna, 3 other Nicelanders, and Sonic [who appears from behind the black Nicelander on the right of the scene]) He was also at Felix and Calhoun's wedding (2nd row on the left, rightmost seat)

I've also read that Zelda was in the movie, but I've watched it something like 12 times now and haven't seen her. Anybody spot her?

    1. Make that 5. He was in Game Central again when Calhoun and Felix were about to enter Sugar Rush. ~32 minutes into the movie.

  30. Teenage Ninja Mutant Turtles got a nod as well. There's a TMNT console behind the Sugar Rush console. First seen 2 minutes into the movie (console is on the right), and again 21 minutes into the movie. Third and better view is 1 hour 32 minutes into the film. Console features Leonardo on the side.

Chun li also gets 3 more appearances. At Felix and Calhoun's wedding, second to last row on the left, snuggled up next to Ken. 1 hr 32 minutes. In a picture on the wall of Tappers. And again in Game Central at 32 minutes walking with 2 princesses, 1 of which has similar coloring to Princess Daisy.

Star Wars gets 2 nods. 1 in the "fast forward" section at 2 minutes into the movie (2 different consoles on the left) and again when Ralph is hiding from the cops and devil dogs in the swamp (Darth Vader's breathing is the sound used for his candy snorkel)

World of Warcraft gets a nod in the form of "Leerooooy" graffiti in the subway terminal on the Pac-Man side, 7 minutes into the movie.

Possible Monkey quest cameo at 8:48. Again at the penthouse party.

Time Hunter 4 at 18:25 beside the Hero's Duty console.

  32. When Ralph gives the pac man cherry to Q*bert, I saw a man in fedora walking right behind Ralph. I think that's Indiana Jone since there were arcade versions of the Indiana Jone games ( Temple of Doom is one of them).

Also when Ralph enters Game Central Station and was questioned by the Surge Protector security guard, the guard asked Ralph for his name and Ralph replied " Lara Croft" as a homage to Tomb Raider.

  38. The ninja isn't Smoke or Noob Saibot. First, and most importantly, he looks nothing like Smoke or Noob. If that simple fact isn't convincing enough, then how about this: why are there then THREE similarly dressed ninjas walking together in Game Central Station? If it's Smoke or Noob Saibot, then why are there three ninjas seen together later on? That proves this ninja is part of a group of ninjas from some game where there are ninjas, and indicates it's not simple one Smoke, or one Noob Saibot. They are seen together right after Ralph takes the soldier's mech suit to become a good guy, in Game Central Station when it is near empty because the arcade is opening.

  39. I know this is kind o a necro post to do this, but there is a view of the Ninja Turtles in the form of their game cabinet behind and to the left of Sugar Rush. It can be seen in the end of the film when Ralph is looking at the game before the Nicelanders throw him off the roof.
